"The girls met in Joyce Grimes’ garage to drink Kool-Aid and discuss Hannah Smith’s idea for starting their own backyard ballet show. Hannah pointed out the potential for making enormous amounts of money based on the gate receipts they would collect from at least two performances daily. A stage was built, costumes were designed, music was composed and hours of rehearsals were completed. On opening day, however, not a single soul showed up in Hannah’s backyard for the matinee. Undaunted by their slow start, the girls decided to take their
show on the road. ‘Traveling Ballet’ opened to thunderous
applause and overwhelming enthusiasm at the ‘ Pirate Club House’
base camp behind Miller’s barn. Shouts of bravo!, bravo!, echoed
throughout the woods on that sunny August afternoon."
